    Big donation from Japan

    gimp のMLにて:
    Subject: [Gimp-developer] Large donation
    Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 13:16:02 +0200

    Hi all,

I just found out from Tim Ney that the GIMP has received a donation of over
$5000 from Hiroyuki Ikezoe in Japan.

I really don't know what to say - individual donations of this size are
rare, and I am flattered that we have been the recipîents of such generosity.

I will do the sums of the donations which we have received over the past
year, and let everyone know approximately how much money the GNOME
    Foundation is holding for us.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

    [Gimp-developer] ANNOUNCE: GIMP 2.0 pre1 - David Neary

    From: David Neary <dneary@free.fr>
    Subject: [Gimp-developer] ANNOUNCE: GIMP 2.0 pre1
    Date: Wed, 7 Jan 2004 09:53:11 +0100

    Hi all,

The first pre-release for the upcoming 2.0 version of the GIMP
is now available for download from

      ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.0/testing/

or from one of the mirrors listed at http://gimp.org/download.html

Not everything is in its final state, but we think this is close
to a final 2.0 release. Your feedback will help make the 2.0
release even better, and we particularly appreciate testing
efforts. New bugs can be reported to us at
    http://bugzilla.gnome.org/

Please note that the GIMP 2.0 installs side-by-side with the
GIMP 1.2, so there is no need to uninstall your older GIMP.

    Happy GIMPing,
    Dave.

[Gimp-developer] Friends of GNOME - David Neary

    From: David Neary <dneary@free.fr>
    Subject: [Gimp-developer] Friends of GNOME
    Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2003 21:46:09 +0100

    Hi all,

We are coming up to a release. I will post a detailed progress
report, along with the current thinking that I have about the
outstanding blockers. But this mail is about something else.

Over the years since 1.2.0, or even since 1.2 pre1 (way back in
April 1999) we have seen quite a few old "heads" drift away from
the GIMP, either because they've become more active on other
projects, or haven't got as much free time, or simply because
they got into a big row and got pissed off.

I think that 2.0 is an ideal opportunity to get some old GIMPers
giving time to the project again. Some notable examples of people
who have started to reappear recently, and should be welcomed
with open arms, are Kelly and Jay. Some names that come easily to
mind are syngin, adam, vidar, prof, bex, federico, and a bunch of
    others I'm forgetting.

We're not going to dramatically break things again in the way
that we did at the start of the 1.3 cycle, or even when we made
the change to GTK+ 2.2 and Fontconfig a few months ago. In
principle, someone who has the dependencies for a 2.0 build
should have everything they need to keep up with GIMP CVS
    through the 2.2 release.

So, I would like to put together a list of freinds of the GIMP,
and get onto them and see if we can interest any of them in
getting involved again. Can anyone think of names I've left off
here? Several of these are certainly still on the devel list (if
you are, shout). Many will probably request not to be sent any
more mail. A few might help out a bit.

So can I get names and e-mail addresses of people who were
hanging around a while ago that you haven't seen since, and that
you thought were cool? If so, could you send me a name and an
    e-mail address?

What do people think of the idea of a Friends of GIMP list that
gets added to the announce list when we make a release, for
    example?

    Cheers,
    Dave.

Re: [Gimp-developer] Status of gegl, gimp 3.0? - Sven Neumann

    Hi,

We are considering a slow migration towards GEGL since we want to
avoid another large rewrite of the GIMP that would cause another
endless development cycle. So at the moment we consider to start using
some parts of GEGL after GIMP-2.0 is out. This does not necessarily
mean that GIMP-2.2 will have significantly better support for color
spaces or more color precision but it means that the GEGL development
will get more momemtum and it will bring us one step closer to these
    goals.

    > I have just looked at gegl site and it looks quiet, very
    > quiet. Actually it looks just like a year ago ;-( (I mean those %

Indeed. Websites do rarely say anything useful about the state of
development of an open source project. If you had a look at CVS, you'd
have noticed that there is indeed development going on.

    Sven
